Naren K. Gursahaney’s career exemplifies visionary leadership, operational excellence, and innovation in the security and industrial sectors. His journey from a mechanical engineer to a top executive highlights his commitment to customer-centric growth and technological advancement.

 

Early Career and Professional Development

Educational Background

Gursahaney earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University (1983) and an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business (1989).

 

First Steps in Engineering and Consulting

He started as an engineer at Westinghouse Electric in the U.S. and Israel, contributing to the F-16 co-production program. He then spent four years as a consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, gaining strategic and operational expertise.

 

Building Expertise in Leadership and Operations

General Electric Tenure

Over a decade at GE, Gursahaney held senior leadership roles including President of GE Medical Systems Asia, CIO of GE Medical Systems, and Vice President of Service for GE Medical Systems Asia. These roles sharpened his skills in general management, marketing, business development, and IT.

 

Tyco International Leadership

Joining Tyco in 2003, he led a companywide operational excellence initiative as Senior Vice President. He then served as President of Tyco Flow Control and President of Tyco Engineered Products & Services, overseeing multi-billion-dollar divisions. Later, he became President of Tyco Security Solutions, Tyco’s largest operating segment including ADT Security Services.

 

Ascending to CEO and Driving Innovation at ADT

ADT Corporation Leadership

Following ADT’s spinoff from Tyco, Gursahaney was appointed President and CEO in 2012. He prioritized innovation by hiring a Chief Innovation Officer and strengthening ties with Silicon Valley to maintain ADT’s leadership as the largest home security provider in the U.S. Under his leadership, ADT became more customer-centric and innovation-driven. He retired in 2016 after ADT’s sale to Apollo Global Management.

 

Board Roles and Philanthropy

Gursahaney serves on the boards of NextEra Energy and Stericycle and advises Berwind Corporation. He is also a trustee and active supporter of Penn State University, contributing to fundraising campaigns and entrepreneurship initiatives. He and his wife have donated millions to support university athletics and innovation programs.
